The 2023 Graduate Tracer Study annual report of the Faculty of Manufacturing Technology (FTM), Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani, shows that 72.6% of graduates found work within six months or less. The survey, conducted from April to December 2023, reached 186 respondents from three bachelor's programs, a response rate of 68.9%.

Response rates by study program were:

  • Industrial Engineering: 30 of 40 graduates (75%).
  • Mechanical Engineering: 96 of 142 graduates (67.6%).
  • Metallurgical Engineering: 60 of 85 graduates (70.6%).

The three graduates of the Master of Technology Management that year were not yet covered by the survey.

Workplaces and field relevance

Of the respondents, 51.1% work for national-level or incorporated organisations, 35.5% for multinational or international companies and 13.4% at a local level. In terms of field relevance, 72.6% say their job is closely or very closely related to their field of study, 24.7% describe the relationship as fair, and only 2.7% as weak or non-existent.

Findings by study program

In Industrial Engineering, nine in ten graduates (90%) were employed within six months, and 67% say their job closely matches their field. Mechanical Engineering, the program with the most graduates, recorded 71% employed within six months and 73% with high field relevance. In Metallurgical Engineering, four in five graduates (80%) work for multinational or international companies, and none work in an unrelated field.

Employer ratings

The report also includes 177 ratings from the supervisors or organisations where alumni work. Employers of Industrial Engineering graduates rate their ethics and teamwork very highly, while 94% of employers rate the information technology skills of Mechanical Engineering graduates as very good. The ethics and foreign language skills of Metallurgical Engineering graduates are rated very good by 93% of employers. Even so, foreign language and communication skills remain a concern across all programs.

Recommendations

The report recommends strengthening graduates' foreign language and communication skills, reviewing the curriculum together with industry partners, and integrating the tracer study system with SIAKAD and PDDikti so that alumni data is well documented and easy to trace.
